The earliest date to detect pregnancy

A pregnancy test generally determines pregnancy by detecting the hormone hCG in your urine or blood. This hormone is produced by the body when a woman is pregnant. Many new home pregnancy test are very sensitive and are be able to detect very small amounts of hCG. They can often be used as soon as 7 days after ovulation. Still results this early are often not reliable and you should conduct more test later if it shows you are not pregnant.

Implantation usually happens around 7 to 10 days after ovulation. When this happens a woman´s body will start producing hCG, with some women producing more than others. The amount of hCG in the body will double every two to three days. While it is very possible to test positive as soon as 7 days after ovulation, it could also be that implantation has not happened yet. Your body could also be produce very little hCG. In both of these cases the pregnancy test will be negative while you are in fact pregnant.

Generally blood tests are more reliable than urine tests when it comes to detecting hCG in the body. This means that they can usually detect pregnancy earlier than urine tests, often as soon as 6 to 8 days after ovulation. These tests can only be done by a trained physician and most of them will not do one unless there is a valid reason.

The earliest date you can detect pregnancy is 6 days with a blood test and 7 days with the newest home tests. Still, to get reliable results you should probably wait a little longer.
